This is our tile entryway as-was. It was very ugly and uneven. The grout was thicker in some places than others and it's been bothering me ever since we moved in.
Scott started in on the work with a hammer and chisel, only to find that the glue under the tiles was about half an inch thick, and very hard to get up.
Nate bought a mini jackhammer to finish the job.
To even out the subfloor, Nate added some self-leveling concrete.
Anna was very helpful. She even wore her tool apron that Grandma Parnell made her for Christmas.
This is what the kids did while all the jackhammering was going on--snuggled, and eventually fell asleep in, my bed.
Ready for grout.
The kids helped to scrub the grout off of the tiles. They really were very helpful.
And...the final outcome. We really like the look of the slate. Now we need to work on getting some new baseboards and maybe getting rid of the wallpaper in the entryway. It felt good to get something done on the house, even though it did take up most of the Christmas break.
